Advantages of Boron Nitride Release Agent

26-April-2022

Release agents can be divided into organic release agents and inorganic release agents, among which Boron Nitride (BN) is the leader among inorganic release agents. Taking glass molds as an example, the most widely used process lubricating materials traditionally use graphite as the basic material, but boron nitride has become a better choice of lubricating materials than it, and it is often used in glass processing and non-ferrous metals manufacturing.

The main problem of using graphite as a lubricating release agent for glass molds is that under high temperature conditions above 454, graphite can undergo oxidation reaction, generate carbon dioxide and be consumed, and the working temperature of glass molds often reaches 600~900 °C. So molding agents generally have the problems of large consumption and easy damage to the lubricating film.

While boron nitride is a fine ceramic material with a hexagonal layered structure similar to graphite, there is no b-n bonding between the layers, so the planes slide between each other, resulting in a soft and lubricating effect, and be called White Graphite. And it not only has good release properties, but also has high temperature stability, chemical stability, electrical insulation, so using boron nitride instead of graphite as the main lubricating material can perfectly solve the above problems.
