The Mechanical Properties of Hexagonal Boron Nitride

27-July-2022

The friction coefficient is 0.16, and does not increase at high temperature. It has higher temperature resistance than molybdenum disulfide and graphite. It can be used until the oxidizing atmosphere reach 900°C, and the vacuum reach 2000°C.The lubrication performance is poor at room temperature, so it is often mixed with fluorine fossil ink, graphite and molybdenum disulfide as high temperature lubricant.

Hexagonal boron nitride is a soft material with a Mohs hardness of only 2. Due to the graphite-like lamellar structure of BN crystal, the compact HBN porcelain body formed by hot pressing sheet crystal has a certain degree of directional arrangement. This microstructure makes some properties of HBN products have obvious anisotropy. The mechanical properties of hot-pressed HBN are greater in the strength parallel to the compression direction than perpendicular to the compression direction.

In addition, it is characterized by good mechanical processing, can be turned, milling, planing, drilling, grinding, cutting, and high processing accuracy, so it can be processed into parts and components with high accuracy by a general mechanical processing method.
